By Eric Saddler: The Dallas Cowboys got a lucky break in the 4th quarter against the Detroit Lions when one of the officials reversed a pass interference call against the Cowboys. This move led to the Lions eventually turning the ball over, and thus preserving the Cowboys 24-20 win in the Wild Card game at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The Cowboys will now face the Green Bay Packers next weekend at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
What’s interesting about the Cowboys-Lions game was how different the two halves of the game were. In the 1st half, the Lions dominated the action in building up a sizable 17-7 lead against the Cowboys (12-5), Things were looking pretty bleak for the Cowboys going into the 2nd half of the game. However, the Cowboys were able to outscore the Lions 17-3 in the last two quarters to get the victory.
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo had touchdown passes of 76 and 8 yards to Terrance Williams. The key score came with 2:32 minutes left in the game when Romo connected on an 8-yard TD pass to Williams for the game-winning score.
Romo ended up completing 19 of 31 passes for 293 yards with two touchdowns.
Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 28 of 42 passes for 323 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Stafford didn’t play that bad. His problem was that he didn’t get much help from the Lions’ running backs, who were largely bottled up by the Cowboys defensive front. Stafford had a 51-yard touchdown pass to Golden Tate in the 1st quarter to give the Lions a 7-0 lead.
Lions’ running back Reggie Bush rank for an 18-yard touchdown run also in the 1st quarter to extend the Lions lead by a 14-0 score. At the time it looked the Lions were on their way to routing the Cowboys. But unfortunately for the Lions, the Cowboys defense clamped down on them and only allowed two field goals the rest of the way.
Lions’ running back Joique Bell was the leading runner with 43 yards on 12 carries. Reggie Bush rushed for 37 yards on 8 carries.
Cowboys’ running back DeMarco Murray rushed for 75 yards on 19 carries with 1 touchdown.
Golden Tate caught 6 passes for 89 yards with one touchdown for the Lions.
Cowboys’ receiver Terrance Williams caught 3 passes for 92 yards with 2 touchdowns. Dez Bryant was surprisingly quiet with 3 catches for 48 yards.
