By Benjy Swan: Here are the results for Saturday’s NBA action. There was some interesting game, in particular the Portland Trail Blazer’s win over the fading Boston Celtics.
Oklahoma City 101
Milwaukee Bucks 85
Playing at home, the Oklahoma City Thunder blew out the Milwaukee Bucks by a 101 to 85 score in Oklahoma City. The Thunder were led by Kevin Durant, who scored 33 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. The Thunder also got 17 points and 17 rebounds from Serge Ibaka. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the Bucks.
The Houston Rockets got good play from Terrence Jones in beating the Washington Wizards 114-107 in Washington, DC on Saturday night. Jones scored 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Rockets. Jeremy Lin had 18 points and 8 assists for the Rockets. The Wizards attempted to rally in the 4th quarter with John Wall leading them, but the Rockets were able to shut them down enough to scrape out a victory. Wall scored 23 points for the Wizards. They also got 23 points and 14 rebounds from Trevor Ariza.
Josh Smith hit a layup with 1.5 seconds left in the game to give the Detroit Pistons a narrow 110-108 win over the Phoenix Suns at Auburn Hills in Detroit, Michigan. Smith scored 25 points with 11 rebounds. Brandon Jennings added an incredible 18 assists, which is an NBA high this season.
The Suns made it interesting in putting up a lot of points at the start of the 4th quarter with a 13-3 run, but the Pistons shut them down with a 7-point run of their own to recapture the lead.
Channing Frye scored 21 points for the Suns.
The Chicago Bulls won their 5th straight game in defeating the Charlotte Bobcats 103-97 on Saturday night in Chicago. D.J. Augustin put up 20 points with 12 assists for Chicago. The Bulls also got 19 points and 14 boards by Joakim Noah. Charlotte was led by Gerald Henderson, who scored 30 points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
For the Bobcats, this is their 3rd straight defeat and a sign that they badly need help.
New Orleans 107
Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzski had a big game in scoring 40 points and snatching 4 rebounds to lead the Mavericks to a close 3 point win over the New Orleans Orleans Pelicans at the American Airlines Center. Monte Ellis scored 28 for Dallas.
Anthony Davis scored 28 points and had 14 rebounds and 2 assists for New Orleans. Guard Eric Gordon scored 20 points.
The Portland Trail Blazers whipped the struggling Boston Celtics 112-104, handing them their 8th straight defeat and putting their season in a tail spin. Without Kevin Garnett, the Celtics are a lost team., and that trade the Celtics made in the off season is coming back to bite them in the backside.
LeMarcus Aldridge scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Trail Blazers. Portland played poorly in the 1st half, but came back strong in the 2nd to rout the hapless Celtics. The Trail Blazers rallied in the 3rd quarter after scoring 13 straight points to take control of the game at 77-68. From that point on it was all Portland.
The Celtics were led by Avery Bradley with his 25 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
