Stephen A. Smith Reporting from LA this Week to Cover Lakers Home Stand
NBA Wednesday’s doubleheader tips off at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN when the Chicago Bulls host the Philadelphia 76ers. Ryan Ruocco will be courtside with analyst Doris Burke and reporter Cassidy Hubbarth. In the 10:30 p.m. nightcap, Dave Pasch and Mark Jackson will be courtside at Staples Center when LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers host Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets.
Friday’s NBA on ESPN slate begins at 8:00 p.m. in Houston when James Harden and the Rockets host Jimmy Butler and the Philadelphia 76ers. Mark Jones will provide commentary with analyst Doris Burke and reporter Israel Gutierrez. In their second ESPN appearance of the week, Jokić and the Nuggets visit Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors at 10:30 p.m. Mike Breen will call the game with analyst Jeff Van Gundy.
NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC features the Los Angeles Lakers, led by LeBron James, hosting the Boston Celtics, led by Kyrie Irving, at 8:30 p.m. Mike Breen will call the action with analysts Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, and reporter Lisa Salters. Rules analyst, Steve Javie, will be live at the NBA Replay Center in Secaucus, NJ providing his expertise. Play-by-play announcer Sean Kelley and analyst Jon Barry will call the game for ESPN Radio beginning at 8 p.m.
Ahead of Saturday Primetime, Cassidy Hubbarth, Rachel Nichols, Shaquille O’Neal, Ramona Shelburne, Dave McMenamin and Amin Elhassan talk Celtics-Lakers courtside at Staples Center during ESPN’s 30-minute NBA pre-game Twitter show, “Hoop Streams”. The show streams an hour prior to ESPN’s NBA Saturday Primetime on ABC broadcasts and during the NBA Playoffs, NBA Conference Finals and NBA Finals. This week’s stream begins at 7:30 p.m. at twitter.com/espn.
The Indiana Pacers visit the Philadelphia 76ers for the NBA Sunday Showcase on ABC. Mark Jones will provide commentary with analyst Hubie Brown and reporter Israel Gutierrez for the 3:30 p.m. matchup. Play-by-play announcer Tom Hart and analyst PJ Carlesimo will call the game for ESPN Radio beginning at 3 p.m. Rules analyst Steve Javie will contribute from the NBA Replay Center.
NBA Countdown, ESPN’s NBA pregame show, will tip off game coverage all week as host Michelle Beadle joins analysts Paul Pierce, Chauncey Billups and Jalen Rose to preview the games and give halftime reports. Saturday’s NBA Countdown half-time report will broadcast live from Staples Center.
After being invited to watch the Warriors play on International Women’s Day (Mar. 8) by Steph Curry, NBA Countdown spent some time with nine-year-old Riley Morrison, in a feature that will air Friday ahead of her special night at Oracle Arena. A few months ago, Morrison wrote a letter to Curry requesting he make his sneakers available in girls sizes, in which Curry acknowledged Morrison’s concerns and has since included his sneakers in the girls’ section on Under Armour’s website.
Stephen A. Smith, featured commentator on popular ESPN morning debate show First Take and host of his namesake show on ESPN Radio, will be in Los Angeles this week for the Lakers home stand, including Wednesday’s ESPN and Saturday’s ABC broadcasts. In addition to First Take and The Stephen A. Smith Show, Smith will appear on segments of SportsCenter and Get Up!, providing insight and updates on the Lakers’ current state in the league.
The Jump, ESPN’s NBA news and discussion show, airs at 3 p.m. weekly with host Rachel Nichols featuring a cast of high-profile analysts, reporters and guests.
